The antennal lobe of Drosophila melanogaster

Antennal lobe of a male fly after removing both funiculi (3rd segment) of the antennae. The dark degenerating olfactory axons outline the glomerular structur of the antennal lobe (AL). AN (antennal nerve) labels thick mechanosensory fibres originating in Johnson's organ situated in the 2nd antennal segment that bypass the antennal lobe and project to the mechanosensory center:

See horizontal section with antennal nerve and antennal lobe.

View next, more ventral section with large mechanosensory fibres of the antennal nerve projecting into the mechanosensory center.
